But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher.

Hello? Welching is the act of making promises that you have no intention of upholding. But as told to us in our baptism, the devil has nothing but "pomp and empty promises."

In other word, the father of lies is nothing but a welcher!

No. Welching is the act of making promises that you have no intention of keeping. Diabolical promises are kept, but they are empty; that is, nothing of worth is ever delivered, either because it was never there (when you buy a pig in a poke, you really do buy something but not what you think you are getting) or because the conditions of the promise are never met (as when you don't get to keep a credit card balance in the range where you qualify for zero interest). "Upholding" a promise is something more ambiguous, and might be read as delivering on a promise; on that reading, the Devil does not uphold promises.

See, and we know that this is a sound response. After all, it was passed on by NPR, and who ever heard of NPR being wrong about religion? Why, this makes me want to tithe to the local public radio station!
