Local Power Advances!

This article, datelined march 30 from Edinburgh, Scotland, comes to us from the British bi-monthly "renewable energy" magazine Re-Focus.

The report tells of a yearly survey done by WADE, the World Alliance for Decentralized Energy. They report that world energy generation by decentralized technologies - solar, wind, water, biomass, hybrid - has grown to 7.2% as of last year. So far, this is a one-tenth of one percent yearly increase. The WADE Survey also notes that growth potential for such technologies lies in Third World countries, with Brazil and India in the lead.

As we stated before, decentralized energy grids makes energy production safer, since it presents a less likely target for terrorists to destroy. Thus, energy production is made more secure, as well as localized. If combined with better oil production, energy conservation, and development of so-called "free energy" technologies pioneerred by men like Nikola Tesla, the nations of the world can make their energy future cleaner and more stable.

And, in turn, further cutting down the influence of both big government and big business.

So, in it's own way, this is another victory for Distributism. Thanks be to God.

Our View On The Schiavo Case

G. K. Chesterton wrote a powerful book called Eugenics and Other Evils, which was a mighty indictment of the so-called "racial hygiene" movement that was within Nazi Germany and also infecting his England. Plans to segregate and sterilize the "unfit" and "inferior" were not just the rage among the monsters of Naziism. England's Parliament had proposals for laws to do similar things to the mentally ill and retarded, as well as the poor and sick.

Thankfully, Chesterton, Belloc and those with them who would form the Distributist League helped stop such movements in their tracks.

Alas, with the passage of time and the decay of morals, we are abandoning the warnings history left to us and are destroying our unborn, sick and elderly. The current starvation of Terri Schiavo in Florida is just but the latest example of such rank evil.

But there are others more elequent and forceful than myself who can speak to this better than I ever could. So I leave it to Fr. Lawrence Smith, who was a past contributor to Gilbert Magazine - the publication of the American Chesterton Society - to speak for us on the Review regarding the death of Mrs. Schiavo and the layers of evil surrounding it.

His essay, from the online Traditional Catholic newsletter Christ or Chaos, is called "Do No Harm!"

In a Distributist America, "death by starvation" would not happen to Mrs. Schiavo. In a Distributist Holland or Belgium, so-called "physician-assisted suicide" would not happen to their elderly or despairing.

Let us strive, in every nation of the world, to eliminate laws and statutes promoting this "new eugenics" of abortion and euthanasia. Now matter how long it takes or how fierce the struggle.

Chesterton and Belloc would expect no less.

Wal-Mart Fined Again

This report is from the India-based news website New Kerala.

Wal-Mart used hundreds of illegal immigrants to clean many of it's stores. So now it must pay about US$ 11 million in fines because of it.

This behemoth of retailing still doesn't get it...or perhaps, doesn't wish to get it. Let this be further fuel for our respective fires, so to speak, to pray and work for the reduction of the size and power of Wal-Mart in particular and chain stores in general.

Merger Madness Hits Us Again!

This funny but poignant column is written by Greg Crosby, a former creative head of Walt Disney publications, and found in the Jewish World Review.

This article is based on the announcement that Federated Department Stores will buy out May Department Stores for about US$ 11 billion. All to be able to compete with - you guessed it - Wal-Mart and K-Mart and Target.

Crosby calls this process "the MacDonaldization of retailing". Ouch! He hits the nail on the head here.

Chesterton criticized this a long time ago, calling it "standardization by a low standard".

Let this be incentive to spur us on to pray and work harder for the eventual downfall of the chain store phenomenon, in favor of small stores and retail co-ops. No matter how long it takes!

Vitamin Takers Under Attack

This frightening column is from veteran American paleo-conservative writer and author Alan Stang, and put on the news and opinion website Etherzone.com.

Thanks to both Democrat and Republican agreement to entrance into the World Trade Organization, vitamin suppliment standards are - as of June, 2005 - to be reduced to ineffective levels. This is an outrage. And as usual, the so-called "mainstream" American media - both liberal and neo-conservative - have been silent about it. The globalist fanatics running both major parties, as well as their friends in the Big Pharmacy and Big Medicine lobbies, will benefit by this...but at our expense.

Both financially and physically.

There are three bills before the US House of Representatives dealing with this issue. Only one, HR 1146, would help to stop this move to restrict public access to vitamin and mineral suppliments. We encourage our American readers to read Mr. Stang's column, and contact their Congressmen accordingly. And soon...VERY SOON!

There is also an allied group Mr. Stang mentions, the British Alliance for Natural Health. It wil challenge this ruling against vitamin takers before the neo-Marxist World Court in The Hague. We suggest both American and foreign readers of the DR to contact the Alliance, and find out what help they need and assist them.

Thank you.
