East Timor is Five Years Old

According to a report from the pro-globalist BBC, the tiny nation of East Timor is celebrating it's fifth year of independence from Indonesia. This former colony of Portugal remains Asia's poorest country, although it has received great amounts of international aid. As the BBC reports, the nation still lacks access to education, medical care and clean water.

Here is a great opportunity to implement Distributism in Asia. This little nation deserves to be pulled out of the doldrums of poverty, without becoming part of either the Capitalist or Socialist camps.

If anyone reading this blog from that part of Asia can help to inform folks about Distributism, then please do so.

Co-op Sex Toy Shop? OH, PLEASE, NO!!!!

This report, from the August 26th edition of Boston Indymedia - a branch of the (ugh!) anarcho-socialist Indymedia group, reports on a move to unionize employees at the local Grand Opening! sex toy shop. (By the way, they prefer to use the euphemism "sexuality boutique".)

This business, which also has a branch in Los Angeles, wants to expand nationally, promoting their "sex-positive stores" and the Sexual Revolution as a whole. However, the management has been stalling the workers in recognizing the first movemtns to unionize. So the workers have appealed to the National Labor Relations Board for help.

The company's rival in San Francisco, Good Vibrations, is a worker-owned co-operative. So many of the posters on the Boston Indymedia site have advocated the GO! workforce to either take over the company to make it a co-op, or start a rival similar to the one in San Francisco.

Now co-operatives is in line with Distributist Thought, for they promote de-centralized ownership of productive private property to as many as possible. Worker-managed co-ops are even better, for they are not controlled as easily by either big government or big business.

But organizing a co-op in order to promote sexual immorality?!?! PLEASE!!!

Pornography, at least in the USA, is a three billion US dollar industry. How many lives have been ruined by it? How many souls have been blackened and warped by it? Alas, many of us have been stained by this scourge of society. Shops like GO!, whether under it's current ownership or as a worker-owned co-op, must not be allowed to exist.

Sexual activity is ONLY moral and licit between a man and a woman within the bonds of unbreakable matrimony. Any other type of sexual activity is objectively wrong, no matter what national governments, academia, media and judiciaries say otherwise.

Distributism is committed to destroying the Sexual Revolution worldwide, even if it takes - literally - centuries of effort. Pornography is just one aspect of it. To paraphrase Chesterton,

"One does not argue with pornography. One stamps it's foot down on it!"

BACK THE INDIES! BREAK THE CHAINS! #3

According to an August 26th report from the globalist-liberal American news website MSNBC.com, the notorious restaurant chain Hooters - already having franchises in 26 countries - now wants to open 10 restaurants in India.

Hooters is well-known for its - well - provocitively clad waitresses, as well as their steak sandwiches and barbecued chicken wings.

They will be looking to increase their market share world-wide, tackling fellow globalist rivals like McDonald's and Domino's Pizza. They plan to open a franchise in Communist China and three in Thailand, with Latin America as it's next target.

From a Distributist perspective, not only will this put unwanted, increasing pressure on local and small restaurants to keep up or die, but also this is AGAIN using sex to sell a product, albeit lunch and dinner. Also, this does not encourage working families to enjoy their meals with one another, taking time to both eat and enjoy each other's company.

Chesterton complained about this long ago, calling this "standardization by a low standard". The people of India must rise up and shove Hooters - and the rest of the chain restaurants - out of their country. They have enough troubles with Maoist rebellion, poverty, fresh water shortages, their troubles with Pakistan and Red China, idol worship and so on. They do not need this new ill infecting them.

BACK THE INDIES! BREAK THE CHAINS! #2

Last Thursday - August 26, 2004 - the California Senate passed a bill forbidding local officials from allowing horrid superstores like Wal-Mart or Costco, unless they do detailed impact studies on small businesses and taxpayers. This report comes to us from the Sacramento Bee.

It is sad that the California government has to step in, and force the local cities and counties to get off their duffs and stop the spread of these chains. But alas, inertia is one of the risks of being in a bureaucracy, however big or small the size. True, critics will claim this is the state government running roughshod over the cities' authority in their own matters. Yet, this situation would not have happened if the state, counties and cities were more vigilant in banning or hampering the existence of the chains and superstores in the first place.

Distributism believes in protecting the mom-and-pop stores and co-operatives from both big government and big business. If Governor Schwarzenegger signs this bill, this will be a benefit to both small businesses and competition in his state.

We'll see what happens.

Zimbabwe In Shackles

A lady by the name of Cathy Buckle writes a weekly letter from Marxist Zimbabwe to the controversial news and opinion website Rense.com. Every time this poster reads those reports, it both saddens and enrages me. Saddens, because similar situations are happening all over sub-Saharan Africa. Enrages, because both the West and the Sino-Soviet....excuse me, Sino-Russian Bloc won't do anything about it. The former, because they either don't want to be accused of racism and neo-colonialism, or because it would be bad for business. The latter, because they are comrades in the "struggle for liberation of the global proletariat", as well as it would harm their own business investments.

Anyway, Ms. Buckle has reported that Zimbabwe's opposition - the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) - has announced that it won't run any candidates for office on any level in the country. Why? Not because they despair of freeing their land from their Marxist dictator Robert Mugabe. But that his ZANU party keeps changing the rules for elections, and often at the last minute. And so long as the Mugabe regime sets the rules, they "refuse to play the game".

Good for them, and too bad for Mugabe and ZANU.

Like South Africa, Zimbabwe - the former Rhodesia - had an apartheid regime. And like South Africa under the ANC, Zimbabwe under ZANU has become like so many other dictatorships through the world, whatever their racial or ethnic backgrounds. What their apartheid regimes did to the blacks, both the ANC and ZANU are doing to their respective white and rival blacks. Small businesses and co-operatives are crushed under over-regulation. Gun control is rigorously enforced. In Zimbabwe, like in other tyrannies, it is now illegal to criticize Mugabe at all.

Along with liberation from Mugabe and ZANU, Zimbabwe needs to know about the Distributism of Belloc and Chesterton and their legitimate successors. The temptation to centralize and dominate one's smaller rivals finds effective resistance when a nation implements Distributism to it's own unique situation. It will not stop such temptations all the time, true. But it will remove many occasions of it, helping a nation to promote Christ-centered sanity in it's domestic political and economic policies.

Turner Raises A Ruckus For Anarchists

This report from columnist Luke Boggs for Creative Loafing Atlanta reports on the violent anarchist group The Ruckus Society. It has recently been getting funding from a source it would - in public - oppose with all it's might.....Ted Turner!

Yes, the multimillionaire - hated rival of fellow New World Order supporter Rupert Murdoch, and enemy of so-called "Jesus freaks" - has been financing this group through his foundation. As Boggs reports, donations have totaled over US$110,000.

But this is nothing new among the super-rich and the self-proclaimed elite. As the late scholar Anthony C. Sutton pointed out in his "Wall Street" trilogy, it was the same super-rich globalist ideologues that financed the Nazis, the Communists and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Edward Jay Epstein, in his book "Dossier", revealed the relationship millionaire Armand Hammer had with every Soviet dictator from Lenin to Gorbachev. And both the Rothchild and Rockefeller families are notorious for funding causes lethal to church, synagogue, family and nations alike.

This is Chesterton's warning of "Hudge and Gudge" verified again with the likes of Turner's relationship with the Ruckus Society. Hence, we in Distributism much watch their movements with a wary and ever-vigilant eye and oppose them. Exposing the ties between them is but one way of doing so.

Samuel Francis On Corporations

This columnist for Chronicles Magazine has written a great article on why "real" American conservatives should be as wary of big business as left-wingers. Coupled with a sensible distrust for the schemes of big government, this should be a good kick-in-the-pants for those wishing to help build a future Distributist America.

The Future of Oil - - Pig Waste

This wild but hopeful report is from the monthly US paleo-conservative magazine Idaho Observer, the July 2004 edition.

There is a team from the University of Illinois that is researching how to turn - of all things - pig manure into a type of crude oil that can be used for heating homesand creating electricity.

With world oil refinery building not keeping up with demand, and billions of barrels of crude oil in northern Alaska still untouched thanks to both eco-Marxist propaganda and Congressional refusal to allow drilling, such projects such as these are even more necessary in generating fuel.

When combined with further research in making alternative energy cheaper, fuel conservation, de-centralizing the electrical grid and other things, America's energy security wil be made stronger. Hopefully, this can be imitated and adapted by other nations.

Chesterton and Schumacher would probably approve.

Reverend Moon and North Korean Cars

This report is from the South Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily. They have reported that the Rev. Sung Yung Moon and his "Unification Church" has opened a factory in Communist North Korea to make cars for the Asian market.

Rev. Moon, who was recently crowned a "messiah" in a public ceremony in Washington, has been dealing with the brutish, thuggish regime for many years. According to the report mentioned above, Moon's car company - owned by the Church - will be making and selling copies of two Fiat models for China and Vietnam, among other nations. The average North Korean worker cannot afford to buy one, buy gas for it, or much less know how to operate and take care of it.

Once again, we see big government and big business joining hands to squash the little guy. The North Korean state, still technically in a state of war with the US, crushes and brainwashes her people within her Marxist dystopia. Rev. Moon, who's Church is widely regarded by many as a cult, wishes to make his birthplace in North Korea a rival to the Vatican. His businesses are working with North Korea to keep it afloat.

Hence the Reds in Pyongyang remain in power, and the people suffer. If the Communist state there is ever eliminated, it will take at least a generation for the poor souls there to be de-programmed from their slavishness to Marxism...and support Distributism.

Let Us Screen Your Mind - - Or Else!

This is from the pro-John Kerry website Intervention magazine.

Just like the report below this one regarding Illinois, President Bush wants every American to be tested for mental illness. This is to be called the “New Freedom Initiative.” Children and school personnel will be the first to be screened. According to Intervention, that means 52,000,000 students and 6,000,000 adults who work at the schools will be targeted.

That is one-fifth to one-fourth of the whole country's population.

Whether Bush or Kerry or a third-party candidate wins the White House this election, this new type of big government program must be quashed from the get-go. NOW!!!

Illinois Knows Better Than You!

This report comes from the Protestant news and ministry website "We Hold These Truths", routed via the Couples Company website.

The state of Illinois passed a law in July of 2004 that commands compulsory mental health screening for both children - up to age 18 - and pregnant women. As reported in the newspaper the Illinois Leader, this foul edict - enshrined last year - passed their State House by a 107 to 5 vote, and the Senate passed it unanimously.

This means the STATE - not you or your doctor - the STATE decides if you are mentally healthy or not. This has shuddering precedent in the old Soviet Union, who regularly put away many political opponents of Communism in mental wards. This violates privacy also.

At worst, unless this law is overturned after the current elections, it means pregnant women who wish not to have the Illinois government hover over their children's mental health will have to flee the state. But in the immediate future, it is imperative that Distributists and others of good will stop similar plans for their own particular state or Canadian province.

Further, this law in Illinois must be overturned - either in the legislature, courts or both - no matter how long it takes....whether it takes months, years, or even decades!

Hudge and Gudge At It Again!

This report - dated today, August 9, 2004 - comes from Wired magazine, via the alternative news website Prison Planet. com.

The blasted ACLU has found out that the US government is using big businesses to do surveillance jobs for them, so as to sneak around restrictions against domestic spying. For all we know, other non-Communist governments are doing the same.

"Hudge and Gudge" - Chesterton's words for big government and big business - despise any sphere of legitimate privacy and anonymity. They wish to eliminate it, but by patient slicing away of our freedoms, a little here, a little there. Such schemes like this must be permanently reversed, and never implemented again in any way, shape or form, here in the US or elsewhere.

Wal-Mart Soaks the Golden State

The San Francisco Chronicle has a report out recently that Wal-Mart's employment practices costs California about $86 million annually in public assistance to company workers.

It seems typical of Wal-Mart, who - quoting Shakespeare from his play "Julius Caesar" - "bestrides the narrow world like a Colossus".

The study, put forth by two members of a pro-union institute in Berkeley, notes that if other supermarket chains did what the global chain does regarding their employees, it will cost California taxpayers over $410 million in public assistance.

And this at a time where, like too many other American state governments, they are operating on a tight or deficit-riddled budget.

If national and state that restricted the size and power of the chain stores were still in effect, such a situation affecting California would not be. If the dollar were not taken off the gold standard in the first place, the Wal-Mart workers' wages would be able to buy more without wrecking their wallets. But both big government and big business doesn't care, or doesn't seem to care.
